Although the National Park Service (NPS), was considering charging overnight camping fees, they were not sure if it would be feasible to implement such a program. Luis A. Gastellum contacted George B. Hartzog Jr. the NPCS administrator with concerns over the proposed fee program on September 26, 1969. In his letter, he urged the agency to continue to consider the idea. The resulting discussion lasted until March 1970, at which point a congressional directive was issued to make fees effective.

Private campgrounds are not subsidized like federal parks. They charge visitors' fees. The fee covers expenses incurred for visitors, but it is necessary. Most campgrounds agree that visitors should be charged for the services they receive. You should expect to pay more if you visit a popular campground. Camping pitches can be rented for up to two people. An awning is free, but some campsites charge a fee. Glimmerglass provides sites for six adults, nine children, and site #165 offers a place for two adults, five children, and one of the most expensive campsites, $165. The rate of a cabin is generally more expensive, but you'll need to ask the campground about amenities in advance to avoid being charged for additional services or amenities.

How long should the supplies in a survival kit last?

It is best to have sufficient supplies on hand in case of an emergency. If disaster strikes, you don’t want to be without your essentials.

If you're camping, for example you should bring all your essentials in one small bag. You should have enough food, water and emergency supplies such as first aid kits, fire starters or matches, tools, and any other essential items.

A flashlight, map and compass are all important. These items will help to keep you safe and assist you in finding your way home if lost.

These items should be stored in a waterproof container. When you are hiking, ensure that your supplies are easily accessible and won't be lost.

How to preserve food in a survival situation

Dried fruits can be used as snacks in emergencies and don't require cooking. They're easy to carry around, and you can eat as much as you want without worrying about weight gain.

Although you can dry fruits at home with a dehydrator or oven, a solar oven is a better option. You can dry almost any food with a solar oven, including meat, fish and vegetables.

Place the food in a plastic bag. Cover the bag with plastic and let it dry somewhere warm.

Once the food is dry, you can store it in a sealed container. Take care not to let any food touch it.
